Grounds/Ice Arena Person
About The Position
The Grounds/Ice Arena Person is responsible for the care and maintenance of the district buildings and grounds, with a specific focus on maintaining two ice sheets at the Ice Arena and ensuring excellent customer service for arena users. This role also involves extensive groundskeeping duties such as maintaining fields, landscapes, athletic play surfaces, and performing snow removal and de-icing. Additionally, the position requires performing routine maintenance and repair of equipment, including grounds maintenance equipment and ice maintenance equipment, as well as assisting with events and other comparable duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid Minnesota Driver's License.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Computer skills, including proper use of email communication.
- Heavy Equipment Operation.
- Knowledge of cleaning techniques and materials.
- Knowledge of all safety precautions applicable to trade.
- Successful operation of powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, single/double axle vehicles, plow trucks, snow blowers, chain saws and other grounds maintenance equipment.
- Caring for and repairing grounds and equipment.
- Operating tractors, trucks and related equipment such as loaders, discs, grass seeders, snow plows, fertilizer spreaders, etc.
- Installing and caring for irrigation systems.
- Welding, both gas and arc.
- Care and maintenance of synthetic and natural turf athletic fields.
Nice To Haves
- Obtain a Minnesota Specialist Boiler License within one year of hire.
- Obtain EPA Certified Pesticide Applicator License within one year of hire.
- Training, providing input for evaluating, and directing personnel.

Responsibilities
- Maintain two sheets of ice at the Ice Arena.
- Deliver excellent customer service to community members using the ice arena.
- Clean bathrooms and locker rooms.
- Maintain fields and landscapes, including watering, mowing, string trimming, pruning shrubs and trees, weeding, and removing debris.
- Prepare and care for athletic play surfaces, including natural and synthetic fields.
- Lay out and stripe athletic play fields for activities.
- Clean up rough areas and fence lines; apply soil sterilant under wire.
- Plow snow and de-ice pavement and other driving/walking surfaces.
- Replace thermostatic and flow traps in heating system, steam traps, and door closures.
- Install and repair concrete, blacktop, chain link fencing, irrigation systems, and athletic equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Operate ice maintenance equipment to maintain acceptable playing surfaces.
- Clean up after events following established district cleaning standards.
- Perform other comparable duties of a like or similar nature as assigned.
- Conduct minor repairs on motors and equipment (grease, change oil).
- Help, serve, take instructions, and work with minimum supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service and use problem-solving techniques.
