About The Position

Camp Interlaken is seeking dependable, hardworking Grounds Maintenance Assistant to assist with the daily maintenance, upkeep, and operation of camp during the summer/fall season (May - October). This role is essential to keeping camp running smoothly. You will help ensure that buildings, grounds, and equipment are safe, clean, and functional for campers and staff. This is a hands-on, active role for someone who enjoys working outdoors, solving problems, and being part of a team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will share responsiblity for the physical integrity of our 106-acre property, including cabins, communal buildings, and sprawling outdoor spaces.

Requirements

  • Experienced: You have 1–3 years of experience in facility maintenance, residential repair, or a trade (carpentry, plumbing, or electrical).
  • Skilled: You are comfortable operating lawnmowers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, and basic power tools.
  • Active: You enjoy being on your feet, can walk a large property, and are comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs in various weather conditions.
  • Community-Minded: You have a friendly, professional demeanor and enjoy working in a vibrant environment filled with children and young adult staff.
  • Reliable: You are at least 21 years old with a valid driver’s license and are available for on-call needs during the peak summer season.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work a flexible seasonal schedule, including some on-call hours.

Responsibilities

  • Grounds & Landscape Stewardship: Maintain paths, roads, and lakefront safety. This includes mowing, trimming, raking, and managing outdoor lighting for safe navigation at night.
  • Facility & Cabin Maintenance: Conduct regular safety inspections and perform "handyman" repairs such as fixing screens, doors, locks, and basic carpentry (bunks, decks, stairs).
  • Mechanical & Plumbing Support: Act as a first responder for minor plumbing issues (leaky faucets, clogged drains) and assist with the seasonal opening/closing of water systems.
  • Waterfront & Pool Safety: Ensure docks, piers, and railings are secure and perform basic pool cleaning to keep our waterfront welcoming.
  • Equipment & Safety: Safely operate power tools and mowers, maintain an organized shop inventory, and ensure fire safety readiness across the camp.
