About The Position

The Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority is accepting applications for the position of Grounds and Landscape Worker. Job duties include: Assist in maintaining appearance of entire airport grounds by mowing, edging, weed-eating, blowing or vacuuming, installing plants and mulch, pruning trees and shrubs, repairing irrigation, applying herbicide and fertilizers, surface painting, litter pick up, small and large event setup, maintaining signage, and light preventive maintenance on equipment. Applicant will also operate radios in communication with the FAA control tower as required under Airfield Driver Training certification.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of landscaping methods
  • Knowledge of use and care of motorized equipment and hand/power tools used in grounds/lawn maintenance work
  • Knowledge of irrigation maintenance and repairs
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to grounds/landscape and maintenance work
  • Knowledge of cultivation, weed control, seeding, and planting of trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials
  • Knowledge of proper use of chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides
  • Knowledge of methods and procedures of lawn, airfield, and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to formulate short and long-range plans
  • Ability to instruct and train others, including the operation and proper use of equipment
  • Ability to speak, read and write English
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and provide first class customer service
  • Ability to operate manual and powered commercial-grade maintenance tools and equipment
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Ability to use computer and digital tools and software applications for documentation inspection and compliance reporting
  • Ability to maintain records
  • Valid driver's license
