About The Position

The Groundman position is an entry point to a career in construction and maintenance of the power grid. The Groundman assists a team in building, repairing, and maintaining overhead electrical distribution systems, with safety as a priority. The position reports to the Foreman. Work is performed outdoors at construction job sites in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The role involves rigorous physical labor, maintaining vehicles and equipment, and supporting outage, storm, and emergency response, including on-call rotation. Employees may work extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.

Requirements

Valid driver's license.
Ability to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within 60 days.
Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Willingness to work for extended periods at job locations, including out-of-state assignments.
Willingness to work outside normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.
Ability to perform rigorous physical labor.

Responsibilities

Perform new construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead distribution systems while prioritizing safety.
Help install and repair overhead power lines, poles, insulators, conductors, and related hardware.
Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order.
Follow safety protocols, including proper PPE use and understanding insulated protective cover used to isolate differences of potential.
Inspect rubber goods and personal protective equipment (PPE), and understand when PPE must be worn.
Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.
Be available for outages, storms, emergencies, and on-call rotation.
