About The Position

The Groundman is a key member of Dynetek Solutions’ fiber and telecommunications construction crews, supporting linemen and foremen in the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial and underground fiber optic and communication infrastructure. Working primarily from the ground, the Groundman prepares job sites, handles tools, materials, and equipment, and assists with overhead and underground operations including pole placement, ADSS installation, fiber pulling, and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) projects. This is a physically demanding, safety-critical role and an excellent entry point into a skilled trades career path within the utility and telecommunications industry.

Requirements

  • 1–2 years of related experience in telecommunications, fiber, utility, or general construction preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record; CDL a plus.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely work at heights and comfort working near energized and communication lines.
  • Willingness to learn to climb safely using pole climbing gaffs/spikes.
  • Ability to read and follow job instructions, safety guidelines, and basic prints or layouts.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screen, and maintain compliance with ongoing testing requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience as a Groundman, Ground Hand, or Laborer on aerial/overhead or underground telecom crews.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic and coaxial construction, ADSS, FTTH, or fiber-to-the-cell projects.
  • OSHA 10/30, CPR/First Aid, or flagger certification.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of an overhead and/or underground telecommunications crew under the direction of the Lineman, Foreman, or Supervisor.
  • Load, unload, lay out, and prepare the tools, supplies, equipment, and materials needed at each job site.
  • Assist linemen in the construction, repair, and replacement of fiber optic and coaxial plant, including new builds and active plant.
  • Support aerial operations such as pole placement, ADSS (communication space) installation, and the transfer or removal of communication lines on utility poles.
  • Assist with underground operations including trenching, hydro-vac excavation support, conduit work, fiber pulling, and site restoration.
  • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and correctly.
  • Manage, track, and organize client and company equipment, small parts, and assets; account for the usage of all equipment.
  • Maintain assigned assets such as test meters, safety equipment, and ladders in good working condition.
  • Keep the company vehicle clean and organized; ensure routine maintenance is completed and report any issues to local management immediately.
  • Perform all work in the safest possible manner, following all internal safety guidelines, OSHA standards, and client requirements.
  • Maintain minimum benchmarks on client and company performance and productivity metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by crew leadership.
