About The Position

Heartland Solutions, a Fibercom division of Heartland Tower Solutions, LLC, is hiring an entry-level Groundman Installer to assist an overhead telecommunications crew with fiber construction and service work. The position requires a strong work ethic, the ability to take direction, follow instructions safely, retain important details, and develop proficiency in assigned tasks. Heartland Tower Solutions provides hotel accommodations and a daily per diem allowance. The role involves outdoor work in varied and inclement weather, physical manual labor, and work on or around customer property. The Groundman Installer assists crew members with preparing and handling tools, supplies, materials, and equipment; completing project labor as directed; and maintaining safety, quality, professionalism, and compliance with company procedures and applicable standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Basic mathematical skills.
Class A CDL, or a CDL permit before starting; must obtain a CDL within 90 days of hire.
Valid unrestricted driver’s license and ability to be insured by Heartland Solutions’ insurance provider.
Ability and willingness to travel and work outdoors in inclement weather.
Willingness to work long hours, weekends, overtime, and a non-structured schedule.
Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions.
Ability to communicate and interact effectively with others; good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to read and understand site plans and drawings, and to read and interpret construction prints, plans, and specifications.
General tool knowledge and ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
Basic understanding of construction skills and willingness to learn new skills and progress rapidly.
Ability to apply logical principles to problem-solving and decision-making.
Detail orientation, self-motivation, and ability to work in a team.
Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects simultaneously; time-management, planning, organizational, and prioritization skills.
Ability to use technical documentation and literature effectively.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Customer service skills.
Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including digging, climbing, and handling tools and materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Must be local to the area or willing to relocate to it.

Nice To Haves

Previous Groundman or Lineman training.
Experience in fiber outside plant construction or related work, including placement of copper or fiber telecommunications cable.

Responsibilities

Load, unload, lay out, organize, and prepare tools, supplies, equipment, and materials at job sites.
Assist with manual labor and other project tasks as directed by a Lineman, Foreman, or supervisor, including digging holes.
Consider the safety of customers and the general public, and comply with governmental orders.
Complete installation work to quality standards while following proper safety standards, procedures, work practices, and OSHA requirements.
Work on and around customer property while following company policies and maintaining professionalism toward customers and their property.
Be responsible for vehicles and equipment under their control.
Follow other job-related instructions and perform other job-related duties as requested by upper management.
