Ground Systems Engineer II, Mechanical

Rocket Lab Corporation•Stennis Space Center, MS
•Onsite

About The Position

Based at Rocket Lab’s Test Facility at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi, the Ground Systems Engineer II designs, builds, integrates, and maintains critical test facilities supporting the Archimedes rocket engine and Neutron launch vehicles. The role works closely with Engine Propulsion and Test Operations teams to develop requirements for test-stand design. The position requires mechanical design and build expertise, along with an understanding of instrumentation and test-site operations. The engineer maintains and upgrades facilities for the Archimedes engine test program and may directly support engine hardware and test operations. They are expected to work independently in support of facility design, build, activation, and engine testing. The position may involve prolonged sitting, standing, walking, and computer work, as well as occasional exposure to moderate levels of noise, dust, and fumes in production areas. U.S. roles are subject to applicable ITAR work-authorization requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or another technical discipline.
  • At least 2 years of experience in rocket engine test-stand or launch-complex design and build.
  • Working knowledge of Siemens NX and Teamcenter.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.1.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NASA GFSSP, Ansys Fluent, and CAESAR.
  • Experience using JIRA for work tracking and scheduling.
  • Broad engineering background and ability to design systems and develop computer tools for automation or analysis.
  • Experience designing or operating facilities for liquid oxygen and liquid methane.
  • Experience in weld design and inspection.
  • Personal-development experience, potentially including pilot training, scouting, or sports teams, especially leadership roles.
  • Working knowledge of computer networks and IT infrastructure.
  • Experience working across disciplines and with fabricators and suppliers to achieve on-time project execution.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity or changes in strategic direction with a positive, self-guided approach.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and integrate critical test systems to support test objectives and requirements.
  • Work with technicians and engineers to troubleshoot facility and test-operations issues.
  • Develop maintenance protocols for new and existing facility infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with Archimedes engine and Neutron vehicle design teams to prepare and perform tests on engine and stage hardware.
  • Work with test operators on the design, build, installation, and checkout of facility systems.
  • Help maintain system cleanliness and integrity, verify components, and ensure internal standards are met.
  • Maintain and upgrade critical test facilities for the Archimedes engine test program.
  • Support engine hardware and engine test operations as needed.
