About The Position

Amentum is currently searching for a Ground Support Equipment Mechanic to work at our MCAS Cherry Point, NC Site. This role involves diagnosing malfunctions and repairing Ground Support Equipment (GSE). The mechanic will advise and train lower-grade workers on less complex repair and maintenance issues, and inspect and approve completed maintenance actions. Problem-solving will involve studying drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical publications. The position requires the use of automated maintenance data systems to monitor trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions. The mechanic will analyze, diagnose, and repair GSE using various testing equipment and hand tools.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to speak, read and understand English.
  • At least four (4) years of experience in inspection maintenance, repair and modification of powered ground support equipment.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks, Respirator, Corrosion Control, and Blasting.
  • There is a great deal of standing, climbing, bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Required to clear preliminary Government security background check prior to employment beginning.
  • Must be able to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC) which includes a 7-year background check for installation access.
  • Must have a valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must be able to possess and maintain tools required on a minimum tool listing within 30 days of hire date.
  • Must have a Negative pre-employment drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Military Aviation Support Equipment experience.
  • Prior GSE operator experience.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses malfunctions and repairs Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
  • Advises and trains lower grade workers on diagnoses and repair of less complex repair/maintenance problems.
  • Inspects and approves completed maintenance actions.
  • Solves repair problems by studying drawings, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical publications.
  • Uses automated maintenance data systems to monitor maintenance trends, analyze equipment requirements, maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions.
  • Analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools.
  • Maintains Ground Support Equipment.
  • Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE.
  • Inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation.
  • Services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air.
  • Diagnoses mechanical and electronic circuitry malfunctions using visual and auditory senses, test equipment, and technical publications.
  • Disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components.
  • Removes, disassembles, repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories.
  • Stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications.
  • Stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations.
  • Prepares GSE for storage and mobility deployment.
  • Operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles.
  • Maintains vehicle records.
  • Maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records.
  • Provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations.
  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety at all times.
  • May be assigned to an enclosed blast/paint booth requiring the use of forced air respiration devices (requires employee to be clean shaven).
