About The Position

Prepares tissue for gross pathology. Gross pathology involves the dictation of overall description of specimen to include size, the cutting of the specimen, loading specimens into processor to prepare specimen blocks for specimen block cutting staining, and Pathology analysis. Registers patient/specimens, assigning unique numbers to each specimen, and orders tests, which are tied to charges. Processes surgical specimens by a frozen process to quickly prepare specimens for Pathologist analysis for patients during surgery.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology obtained from an accredited institution or equivalent education/ training.
• Perform analytical functions such as calculating, weighing and correlating of information.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in the sciences such as biology and anatomy.
• Tissue cutting skills.
• Anatomical lab experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform registration and ordering of tests.
• Properly label cassettes with correct associated job numbers.
• Assist with specimen cutting and gross description dictation.
• Operate basic equipment like a cryostat.
• Prepare specimens for tissue processor.
