About The Position

Glenwood City Veterinary Clinic is seeking a Groomer to join their team. The Groomer is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and well-being of a patient's coat through various grooming services. This role involves working with a diverse range of animal breeds and sizes, performing tasks such as bathing, brushing fur and teeth, and trimming/grinding nails. The Groomer will also engage with clients to understand their expectations and the specific needs of their pets, ensuring client satisfaction. A key responsibility is maintaining a clean, sanitized, safe, and secure grooming environment. This is initially a part-time position, two days a week, with the potential to become full-time. The role is commissioned at 50% and offers an average earning potential of $20-25/hr plus commission and tips.

Requirements

  • Ability to work on weekends as required
  • Experience grooming / caring for animals
  • Ability to lift patients up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients over 25 pounds with assistance
  • Practices OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE

Responsibilities

  • Admit patients, noting client instructions, contact information, and pick-up times.
  • Determine any veterinary services required during the client's visit.
  • Assess patient care needs based on individual circumstances and hospital operating instructions.
  • Observe patient appearance and activity for general physical condition, signs of illness, disease, or discontent.
  • Examine patient's skin for ticks, fleas, redness, soreness, inflammation, or lumps.
  • Report signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to veterinary technicians or veterinarians.
  • Handle patients appropriately and restrain difficult patients when necessary.
  • Perform bathing services, including shampooing and drying.
  • Perform grooming services, including brushing, clipping, hand scissoring, trimming, and shaping the patient's coat.
  • Shape hair according to patient characteristics, grooming techniques, styles, and client instructions.
  • Stay current on new techniques and trends in pet grooming.
  • Administer medication (when instructed), perform general cleansing, parasite control baths, pedicures, medicated dips (when instructed), and ear cleansing as required.
  • Apply technical knowledge of products and medications, including dietary products.
  • Educate clients on products and answer questions regarding product purchase and use.
  • Perform work according to established methods in the practice procedure manual or following special instructions.
  • Maintain grooming room and yard; clean and disinfect cages, tubs, grooming tables, and yard daily.
  • Vacuum and mop floors; empty trash; clean clipper blades, scissors, and brushes after use; perform monthly dryer and clipper maintenance.
  • Deliver groomed patients to clients and ensure satisfaction.
  • Address client concerns appropriately.
  • Train, supervise, and assist the Grooming Assistant in their performance of service functions (where applicable).
  • Set performance standards and monitor performance (where applicable).
  • Conduct timely performance evaluations (where applicable).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
