About The Position

Heartland Veterinary Hospital of Elizabethtown is seeking a Groomer to join their team. The Groomer is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and well-being of a patient's coat through various grooming services. This role involves working with a diverse range of animal breeds and sizes, performing tasks such as bathing, brushing fur and teeth, and trimming nails. The Groomer will also engage with clients to understand their expectations and the specific needs of their pets, ensuring client satisfaction. Additionally, the Groomer is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitized, safe, and secure grooming environment. This position offers a 50% commission on grooming revenue.

Requirements

  • Ability to work on weekends as required.
  • Experience grooming/caring for animals.
  • Ability to lift patients up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to lift patients over 25 pounds with assistance.
  • Practices OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous veterinary experience preferred.
  • Client satisfaction references preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Admit patients, noting client instructions, contact information, and pick-up times.
  • Determine necessary veterinary services during the client's visit.
  • Assess patient care needs based on individual circumstances.
  • Observe patient appearance and activity for signs of illness or distress.
  • Check for ticks, fleas, skin irritations, or lumps.
  • Report any signs of illness, disease, injury, or unusual activity to veterinary technicians or veterinarians.
  • Handle patients appropriately, including restraining difficult patients.
  • Perform bathing services, including shampooing and drying.
  • Perform grooming services, including brushing, clipping, hand scissoring, trimming, and shaping the patient's coat.
  • Stay updated on new grooming techniques and trends.
  • Administer medication (when instructed), perform general cleansing, parasite control baths, pedicures, medicated dips (when instructed), and ear cleansing.
  • Apply technical knowledge of products and medications, including dietary products.
  • Educate clients on products and answer questions.
  • Perform work according to established methods and special instructions.
  • Maintain the grooming room and yard, cleaning and disinfecting cages, tubs, grooming tables, and the yard daily.
  • Clean clipper blades, scissors, and brushes after use; perform monthly maintenance on dryers and clippers.
  • Deliver groomed patients to clients and ensure satisfaction.
  • Address client concerns.
  • Train, supervise, and assist the Grooming Assistant.
  • Set performance standards, monitor performance, and conduct performance evaluations for the Grooming Assistant.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
