About The Position

The Grocery Lead provides direction for department operations, processes, and conditions. The role plans, guides, and empowers team members in the department’s day-to-day work, models an exceptional customer experience, and helps achieve department goals. The Grocery Lead may also act in a Lead capacity in other store departments and perform other duties as assigned or required. The position supports customer service, sales, and profitability by coordinating daily work, coaching team members, maintaining product freshness and food safety, and ensuring grocery tasks are completed to Meijer standards. It may involve register and cash handling, powered equipment, and participation in period-end inventories.

Responsibilities

Engage peers to provide customers with the best possible shopping experience, including an exceptional checkout experience.
Communicate with team members and assign daily work tasks.
Mentor and coach team members to exceed customer service and sales goals, maintain the area to Meijer standards, and complete required training.
Support training new team members and cross-training high-potential talent; provide peer coaching on job responsibilities and standards to improve productivity.
Work with leadership on department schedule writing to support team member engagement, customer service, store sales, and profitability.
Monitor execution of product rotation and dating policies to ensure freshness.
Guide the team in complying with food safety standards and regulations and working safely in alignment with 200% accountability.
Lead team members in completing ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product display, where applicable.
Help create an environment that supports Meijer culture and values Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Operate a register and handle cash when needed.
Operate powered equipment, where applicable.
Participate in period-end inventories, where applicable, to help achieve goals.
May act in a Lead capacity in other departments throughout the store.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
