About The Position

The Grinder Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring PVC scrap grinders and pulverizers to process raw and recycled materials. Duties include feeding material into equipment, overseeing grinding and pulverizing operations, and separating processed material into designated containers for regrind and pulverized output. The Grinder Operator is also responsible for maintaining accurate production paperwork, including material logs and daily reports. Works rotating shifts as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Forklift experience is required.
  • Possess intermediate knowledge of MS Word and Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees of the organization.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Adequate sight, hearing and use of limbs to safely operate powered vehicles. (i.e., forklifts, sweepers, cars, pickups).
  • Sight capabilities to distinguish proper product identification as well as warning and operational indicators.
  • Hearing capabilities to distinguish differences in warning alarm indicators and standard operation indicators.
  • Sight capabilities to identify accuracy and neatness of required job assignments.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling capabilities to handle job requirements such as operating, cleaning or packaging equipment and products.
  • Balancing to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching in all areas due to limited direct supervision and or observation.
  • Ability to verbally communicate either face to face or via telephone with other fellow employees to accomplish all assigned job requirements.
  • Hear clearly and understand verbal communication whether it be face to face or via telephone.
  • See and understand written communication.
  • Ability to use caution when lifting or handling objects or equipment to remain within the recommended weight limit of 50 pounds, and get assistance if material is over 50 pounds.
  • Walking through, under, and around equipment with a clearance of 30".
  • Activates and uses telephones and calculators as required in assigned job requirements.
  • Ability to feel objects, textures, size, and shape and to determine temperatures by touching of skin, primarily by that of finger tips.
  • Ability to grasp tools (manual as well as powered) and use them in accordance with a safe working manner so as not to injure oneself or fellow employees. (i.e., power saws, drills, hammers, presses, latches, etc.
  • Sight capability to safely operate at arm’s length machinery and power and/or hand tools needed to accomplish the requirement of the job assignments for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Six months to one year of experience in a similar manufacturing or industrial field.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain work area to THM standards.
  • Operate grinder machinery to grind PVC pipe.
  • Work under the direction of the Supervisor.
  • Operate PVC scrap grinder and pulverizer.
  • Handle and separate material; fill containers with regrind and pulverized material.
  • Maintain production records and required paperwork.
  • Operate forklift and maintain forklift certification.
  • Assist in set‑ups, changeovers, cleaning, painting equipment, sweeping, and general housekeeping.
  • Handle, sort, and store materials and supplies.
  • Use safe working practices and report hazardous conditions at all times.
  • Complete reports as required.
  • Work rotating shifts (days/nights), including holidays and weekends.
  • Drive forklift daily.
  • Train inexperienced employees as required.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with employees.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues.
  • Assist maintenance personnel during minor repairs or adjustments.
  • Ensure proper labeling and storage of processed materials.
  • Assist in inventory counts, material tracking, and inventory organization.
  • Perform other miscellaneous jobs as directed.
