About The Position

This position is responsible for operating a grinder/extruder, ensuring proper machine operation, and making necessary adjustments. The role involves accurately recording data tied to individual batches, mixing ingredients at the correct temperature, and supplying/loading materials for pet food mixture. The operator will also change screens and rotate hammers via a touchscreen computer. A key aspect of this role is active participation as a team member, fostering cohesiveness, and contributing to the implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies. The position requires familiarity with Simmons' operating systems and a commitment to maintaining and improving them. This role also involves performing other duties as necessary to support business objectives.

Requirements

  • Basic understanding of computer usage is required.
  • Must be able to work in temperature extremes (below 40 to over 100 degrees).
  • Must be able to work on feet entire shift.
  • Must be able to lift, move, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs/ladders to heights of 150 feet.
  • Must be able to work inside or outside.
  • Must be able to perform bending and stooping in tight enclosed area when required.
  • Must be able to see and use electronic screens.
  • Will use head covering, ear plugs (as needed), safety glasses, skid resistant steel toe shoes and any other protective equipment as needed or required.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift license preferred, will need to obtain license once in position.
  • Heavy machinery experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate grinder/extruder ensuring proper operation of the machine.
  • Make adjustments as needed.
  • Accurately record written data tied to individual batches as it enters extrusion.
  • Data is reported to quality assurance.
  • Mix proper ingredients at correct temperature.
  • Supply and load any material needed for the proper mixture of pet food.
  • Change screens and rotation of hammers through touch screen computer.
  • Participate as a member of the Team.
  • Participate in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T practices with all team members.
  • Attend appropriate team meetings.
  • Foster strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc.
  • Accept responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.
  • Be familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies); understand the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
