In this hands-on role, you will set up and operate CNC and manual grinding machines. You will work with downloaded programs and adjust them to ensure accurate, high-quality parts. Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 2+ years of grinding experience, preferably in a job shop or precision manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in operating Chevalier, Kent, Jones & Shipman, Blohm and other flat or cylindrical grinders.
  • Strong understanding of grinding speeds, feeds, wheel selection, and coolant usage.
  • Familiarity with various materials including tool steels, stainless steels, and hardened alloys.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual grinders, including Chevalier, Kent, Jones & Shipman and Blohm machines, to perform surface and cylindrical grinding.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to ensure accurate part production.
  • Inspect and measure parts using precision instruments (micrometers, indicators, comparators, etc.) to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and minor troubleshooting to maintain equipment functionality.
  • Optimize grinding operations for efficiency, tool life, and part quality.
  • Work with tight tolerances, often within ±0.0005”.
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, and other production staff to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety and quality protocols.
  • Document work as required, including job travelers, inspection reports, and production logs.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of apprentices or junior machinists, as needed.
