About The Position

The Grind Operator will set up and operate grinding machines to produce parts to established blueprint and engineering specifications for aerospace applications. This role involves working with both manual and CNC grinders, including Heald ID, Toyoda OD manual and CNC, Okamoto CNC ID & OD, and Kellenberger CNC machines. The position requires the ability to hold tight tolerances, complete necessary paperwork, and work independently, often operating two machines simultaneously. Requirements

  • Familiarity with Toyoda, Okamoto, and Kellenberger Grinders; Heald is a plus.
  • Proficient with standard types of inspection equipment: Indicating Micrometers, Bore Gages, Sunnen Gage, & Test Indicators.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, including assemblies, dimensions, tolerances, symbols, notes, abbreviations, GD&T, and other standard nomenclature per customer, government, or industry standards.
  • Experience in grinding holding tolerances of .0002” - .0005” preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality-focused.
  • General knowledge of standard shop practices and equipment.
  • High School or GED.
  • Ability to work 40+ hours per week.
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CNC experience preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years ID/OD grinding experience preferred.
  • Lathe or mill machinist looking to grow in one of the most complete grind departments in the valley.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operate grinding machines to produce high precision aerospace components on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Setup and grind angles, contours, lines, spheres, etc., onto surfaces.
  • Complete all required paperwork, including inspection reports, SPC, and job travelers.
  • Hold tolerances of .0002” - .0005” while maintaining a high level of productivity.
  • Work independently and stay on task, operating 2 machines regularly.
  • Problem-solve and communicate process improvement suggestions with management.
