About The Position

The Grill Cook is a skilled culinary professional responsible for the expert preparation and cooking of a wide variety of grilled items, including meats, poultry, seafood, and vegetables, to the exact specifications of our recipes and guest requests. This position demands a high level of precision, speed, and consistency in a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment. The Grill Cook is crucial in delivering perfectly cooked, flavorful, and visually appealing dishes, maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and presentation.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (10–12 hours).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds (e.g.bulk food items, equipment, inventory).
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and twisting during food preparation and equipment handling.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for chopping, slicing, plating, and using kitchen tools and machinery.
  • Ability to work in hot, humid, and fast-paced kitchen environments.
  • Must be able to taste and smell food to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Visual acuity to monitor food presentation, cleanliness, and safety standards.
  • Ability to move freely in large kitchen spaces, storage areas, and multiple dining facilities across campus.
  • May require climbing ladders or using step stools to access upper storage or equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate the grill station efficiently, ensuring all necessary tools, equipment, and mise en place are ready before and during service.
  • Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely and accurate preparation of orders, maintaining our commitment to quality and presentation.
  • Keep your workstation clean, organized, and stocked with fresh ingredients to deliver consistently excellent dishes.
  • Embrace the excitement of a fast-paced kitchen, contributing to a positive and energetic atmosphere.
  • Adhere to strict food safety and sanitation standards, ensuring a safe dining experience for our guests.
  • Prepares high-quality food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules.
  • Serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at the correct temperature and is attractive and tasty.
  • Tastes all prepared food items.
  • Uses established ticket collection procedures during service. Responsible for records from area worked during service periods.
  • Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Stores or discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures.
  • Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat. Ensures food and supply items are stored per standards.
  • Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed.
  • Assists in production planning, record keeping and reporting as required.
  • Assists in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required.
  • Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Attends in-service and safety meetings.
  • Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, customers, administrators and managers.
  • Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
