About The Position

The Emerald Necklace Conservancy is seeking qualified applicants for a temporary position to assist in leading, teaching and inspiring youth crew members ages 14-18 in our summer employment program, Green Team. This role is designed as an entry-level, learning-focused opportunity for individuals interested in developing leadership and environmental career skills. The Green Team is a unique and exciting program that employs youth and combines environmental career exploration, park and rose garden maintenance, hands-on workshops, soft skill development, environmental education, nature connection and outdoor adventure activities. Each Assistant Crew Leader is responsible for assisting in the creation of a rewarding, safe and productive experience for the 10-12 crew members ages 14-18.

Requirements

• Interest in natural history, nature connection, and environmental education
• Interest in land care (plant bed maintenance, invasive plant removal)
• Comfortable working outside and getting hands dirty
• Must possess valid First Aid and CPR Certification before the start of the program
• Strong communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Demonstrate a positive attitude while working on a team
• An offer of employment is contingent upon a successful background check, including a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) and SORI (Sex Offender Registry Information)
• 6-12 months of work experience

Responsibilities

• Assist the Crew Leader in managing and supporting a crew of 10-12 youth crew members
• Assist the Crew Leader in supervising youth on tool use and safety
• Assist Crew Leader to ensure the successful and timely completion of work projects
• Participate in outdoor adventure days and overnight camping trip
• Assist in the facilitation of the camping overnight
