About The Position

The Gray Media Training Program is a 10-week immersive experience designed to train the next generation of media professionals in roles such as producers, reporters, weather experts, and sales executives. Participants will gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced local media environment, contributing to real-world assignments that reach a wide audience. The program emphasizes a digital-first approach, encouraging content creation for social media, streaming apps, and web stories. Trainees will collaborate with experienced professionals, build a professional portfolio, and have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the community or local businesses. This program serves as a direct pipeline for full-time career opportunities within Gray Media's extensive network.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment: College student (Junior or Senior status preferred).
  • Degree pursuit: Journalism, Communications, Sales, Marketing, or a related field.
  • A "doer" mindset: Not afraid to get hands dirty and take initiative.
  • Digital savvy: Understanding that media happens everywhere.
  • Strong work ethic: Urgency, organization, and a "can-do" attitude.
  • Communication skills: Ability to tell a story, pitch an idea, or explain a forecast with clarity and confidence.
  • Reliability: Commitment to the full 10-week program and the 25-hour weekly schedule.
  • Passion for local: Care about the community and want to see how local media makes a real difference.
  • Be currently enrolled in a college/university (preferred Junior/Senior).
  • Strong work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Earning a degree in Journalism/Communications, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, News, Sports, or related fields, with a desire to get hands-on experience in the local media industry.

Responsibilities

  • Own the role: Step into the shoes of a producer, MMJ, meteorologist, or media sales executive and handle real-world assignments.
  • Drive digital engagement: Create content for social media, streaming apps, and web stories.
  • Collaborate with pros: Work side-by-side with seasoned veterans.
  • Commit to the craft: Dedicate 25 hours per week for 10 weeks to mastering your specialty and building a professional-grade portfolio.
