About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Advancement and Communications at Libraries, the Graphic Designer will create print and digital designs for a variety of audiences that are tied to larger strategic communications, marketing, and advancement efforts. The position will prioritize visually compelling and accessible design that inspires students, faculty, staff, donors, and members of the public to engage and connect with the Libraries and its various programs and services. The position will work across a collaborative team in the Office of Advancement and Communications as well as field a variety of requests and projects across the organization. The Graphic Designer will be a leader in defining and evolving the visual identities of the various brands associated with Libraries and will develop templates and resources to support a consistent brand experience across Libraries. Examples of projects include digital collateral for websites, signage for the Libraries’ facilities, public events, fundraising communications, and executive presentations/slides. The UW–Madison Libraries lead in curating, preserving, and sharing knowledge through environments that inspire engagement, discovery, and learning. Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of professional experience in graphic design
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or other widely used design software
  • Demonstrated experience with accessible design and ADA compliance with digital products

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing digital marketing materials (e.g., web banners, social media graphics, email templates, and online advertisements) with an understanding of digital platform requirements and best practices
  • Experience in cross-cultural communications or lived experience working across cultures, age groups, and/or language
  • Experience producing graphics for data visualization and persuasive storytelling
  • Experience in complementary multimedia production, including introductory photography and videography
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Associate’s Degree required

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with other creative professionals, engages in and responds to creative feedback, manages project workflow and timing, maintains files, and follows established work unit processes (20%)
  • Schedules logistics, secures resources, organizes, and monitors art production projects adhering to established timelines and expectations (15%)
  • Applies creative expertise within established brand and style guidelines (10%)
  • Analyzes and identifies cost effective options to meet project requirements (10%)
  • Answers questions and provides information and problem resolution options to clients and stakeholders (15%)
  • Creates, designs, and produces artwork per project specifications through various mediums (30%)
