About The Position

Spartan Controls is seeking a talented Graphic Designer to join their Calgary-based marketing team for a temporary term of 18 months, with the possibility of extension. This mid-career to senior-level role requires a blend of strong design fundamentals and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling visual communications. The designer will play a key role in shaping the brand across digital, print, and event channels, collaborating with marketing, sales, and internal subject-matter experts. This position involves contributing to creative strategy and guiding visual direction, not just executing predefined concepts. Applicants invited for an interview will be asked to submit a portfolio of relevant design work.

Requirements

  • 5–10+ years of professional graphic design experience (in-house, agency, or a combination).
  • Experience in B2B, industrial, engineering, energy, technology, or professional services environments.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating: Brand-driven design, Marketing and campaign work, Digital and print execution, Experience with a range of deliverables including ads, infographics, presentations, print layout, trade show graphics, etc.
  • Expert proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop); advanced PowerPoint skills for developing compelling presentations.
  • Familiarity with web design systems or CMS platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail, typography, layout, and visual hierarchy.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communicator who can confidently explain design rationale to non-design stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented.
  • Comfortable balancing creativity with brand standards and business objectives.
  • Proactive, organized, and adaptable.
  • Dedication to continued design skills development and learning.
  • Aptitude to investigate and troubleshoot solutions to unique and novel project requests.
  • Successful candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment security background check.

  • Motion graphics or video experience (e.g., After Effects).

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize, design and produce marketing assets across digital and print channels, including web, email, social media, presentations, brochures, datasheets, and event materials.
  • Translate technical or industrial concepts into engaging, on-brand visual storytelling.
  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
  • Support integrated marketing campaigns, product launches, events, and sales initiatives.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, communicating with various stakeholders across the organization.
  • Prepare final files for print and digital production by external vendors, ensuring accuracy and best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors as needed.
