About The Position

Oakland County is looking for a Graphic Designer who’s passionate about transforming ideas into visuals that inform, inspire, and engage our workforce. As part of our Human Resources team, you’ll play a key role in shaping how thousands of employees experience HR initiatives, programs, and organizational updates. Requirements

  • Possess an Associate’s Degree or equivalent education from an accredited college or university with a major in graphic arts, graphic design, commercial art, or a closely related field.
  • Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development (GED) test.
  • Have four (4) years of full-time work experience in graphic preparation, including layout and design preparation of camera-ready artwork, desktop publishing or closely related area.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in any of the fields described in 1 above may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Considerable knowledge of graphic design software including, but not limited to, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat.
  • Considerable knowledge of typography, photography, printing procedures, color separation, design principles, Web design and video production.
  • Considerable ability to work within structured deadlines.
  • Considerable ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with administrators, other employees, vendors, and the general public.
  • Considerable ability to make routine decisions in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of and ability to utilize current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software.
  • Reasonable ability to follow complex written and oral instructions.
  • Strong portfolio of creative work in both print and digital media.

Responsibilities

  • Design and produce a wide range of internal communications materials, including presentations, newsletters, flyers, brochures, maps, posters, directories, logos, social media assets, intranet content, and displays.
  • Use modern publishing and graphics software to combine text, imagery, and design elements into polished, professional artwork.
  • Prepare and edit photos, scanning, color correcting, retouching, and optimizing images for both digital and print materials.
  • Create original artwork and illustrations using digital drawing tools or by enhancing traditional sketches and existing graphics.
  • Build visual aids, posters, overlays, and supporting graphics for HR presentations and internal events.
  • Develop compelling slideshow presentations that align with speeches, talking points, and key messages.
  • Maintain the County’s brand identity, ensuring consistent use of fonts, colors, imagery, and design standards.
  • Coordinate with printers and marketing vendors to ensure accurate, high quality production and on time delivery.
  • Size, crop, format, and place images and illustrations to support a variety of divisional needs.
  • Utilize countywide and department specific software to manage, track, and complete creative assignments.
  • Compiles and archives digital files, including image files and page layout files.
