About The Position

Use your graphic design skills to build educational, public awareness, internal assets and more. Learn more about this exciting opportunity with the NCDPS Communications Team. As part of the DPS Communications Team, the graphic designer position will be responsible for developing materials to benefit department-wide marketing, instructional and public awareness efforts through creative design work. The graphic designer is expected to have an excellent sense of design and know the role it plays in brand positioning and strategy. The graphic designer will create deliverables for both digital and print production and is responsible for the overall quality of creative work and drives the creative vision for the entirety of the department. This position is responsible for consulting with clients to determine project parameters such as purpose, audience, conceptual focus, and scope and concept cost options. Position works independently; work is reviewed for quality and design concept.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in industry-standard software (like Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Solid grasp of design principles.
  • Bachelor’s degree in visual/graphic design, commercial art or related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution; or Associate’s degree in visual/graphic design, commercial art or related area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of visual/graphic design, commercial art or experience related to the area of assignment; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in visual/graphic design, commercial art, or field related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of practices pertinent to the area of responsibility (e.g. design and visual design concepts).
  • Working knowledge of incorporating various application packages as related to graphic design.
  • Working knowledge of organizational principles of design and visual art elements.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and create visual design from creation (the idea stage) through delivery (final product).
  • Maintain, learn, and stay current with developments and trends as they relate to visual design.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Develop and maintain solid relationships with clients and customers by listening, understanding, and responding to client/customer needs.
  • Advise clients/customers on a range of options for the visualization and communication of information.
  • Assess client/customer needs and determine appropriate outlet, method, audience, and scope.
  • Promote subject matter in a wide variety of visual media.
  • Consult with clients to determine project parameters such as purpose, audience, conceptual focus, and scope and concept cost options.
