About The Position

Full-time temporary position available on or after September 14, 2026 for Continuing and Professional Education (CaPE). Appointment will be made for one year from date of hire with the possibility of reappointment and/or becoming permanent based on budget, department needs, and job performance. This position’s responsibilities are carried out under general supervision. The incumbent is responsible for Incumbents at this level typically perform standard assignments related to the creation of communication pieces for instructional or promotional purposes. They prepare layouts and produce materials using standard skills and knowledge related to the design, creation and display of visual print, multimedia and electronic materials. Incumbents often are often under the direction of more experienced designers and work from written instructions.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and skill are normally obtained through a college degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field.
  • Technical experience and/or relevant coursework that provides foundation knowledge in the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design, as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of artistic and graphic design and illustration including the ability to design, layout and prepare finished artwork to develop a visual product.
  • Working knowledge of applicable graphic, design and desktop publishing software packages and ability to effectively use them to create visual material.
  • General knowledge of the principles of print design, typeface, color, layout, and production techniques.
  • Working knowledge of the use of color, tone, shading, harmony and perspective drawing.
  • General knowledge of systems, techniques and processes used in web site design, photography, printmaking, and other applicable media.
  • Demonstrated understanding of various communication vehicles and methods.
  • Basic knowledge of copyright laws, especially relating to creative properties.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand communication goals.
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a CSU or higher education setting.
  • Experience creating print and digital communication materials, including brochures, newsletters, flyers, and web content.
  • Experience using graphic design software such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience in applying graphic design principles, including typography, color, layout, and visual communication.
  • Experience preparing artwork and production-ready files for print and digital distribution.
  • Experience working with clients or project stakeholders to develop materials that support communication objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and prepares layouts and finished artwork for print and digital communication materials.
  • Produces instructional, promotional, and informational materials, including newsletters, invitations, booklets.
  • Creates visual products using graphic design, illustration, and desktop publishing software.
  • Applies principles of typography, color, layout, and production techniques in the development of graphic materials.
  • Consults with project originators to ensure communication objectives are achieved.
  • Performs graphic design and production activities in support of university communication, instructional, and promotional needs.
  • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
  • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.
