About The Position

The Graphic Artist position is responsible for accurately interpreting and manipulating artwork files, ensuring customers can approve accurate proofs in a timely manner, and adhering to print specifications for various printing platforms. This role involves supplying files to production according to scheduling requirements, tooling procurement, and color management using a wide range of prepress software. The position reports to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • At least five years in the print and label industry.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve issues effectively.
  • Must understand and have experience in Flexo, Digital, and Hybrid printing.
  • Must have advanced skills working in a Mac platform with proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Specializing in Illustrator and Photoshop software + additional creative suite software's), ArtPro.
  • Effective communication skills in order to understand assigned work, and request assistance from co-workers and Prepress Manager when required.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or similar documentation software for some special projects.
  • Mathematical (measurement) skills are a must.
  • Analytical ability and creative problem solving / troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Health and Safety must be an everyday mindset.
  • Flexibility to work weekends as per business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • A degree or diploma in Graphics, Printing Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • An advanced understanding and use of Esko software (ver.22+) is an asset.
  • Knowledge with EFI Radius ERP would be an asset.
  • Workflow and Process Improvement considered as asset.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate artwork file setup for Flexo, Digital & Hybrid, including trapping, color correction, and variable data from customer-supplied files.
  • Pre-flighting files to assess usability of customer-supplied files.
  • Editing files on Mac computers using Adobe Creative Suite & ESKO software.
  • Setting up customer proofs according to specific printing specifications.
  • Liaising with the Prepress Manager or other departments for job-specific instructions.
  • Handling customer-requested changes and file manipulation.
  • Performing some design work as needed.
  • Setting up final stepped files for all print platforms and outputting final files & proofs.
  • Participating in regular press proofs, including artwork and color adjustments.
  • Contributing to and participating in Press Fingerprinting and Colour Profiling for all of RLG's printing platforms.
  • File setup for ordering die cavities, hot stamps, flatbed screens, and films from out-of-house suppliers.
  • Creating P.O.s for outside vendors, supplying accurate tooling files and specifications.
  • Participating in the quality assurance program within the Art Process and associated processes.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to print specifications.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement and implementing new policies and procedures.
  • Creating, documenting, and maintaining Art Dept. standard SOP's, WI's, and Forms.
  • Participating in the Art Dept. KPI program.
  • Ensuring Art Dept. Computers, Software's, Printers, etc. are maintained to the highest standards, scheduling service checks and managing repairs.
  • Consulting with Esko, HP, IT (or similar) for software issues.
  • Upholding all safety protocols and environmental regulations under the Occupational Health Safety Act (OHSA).
  • Conducting regular training sessions on safety practices.
  • Working collaboratively with Customers, Sales, Customer Service, Production Planning, Scheduling, and Production.
  • Sharing information on project timelines and material requirements.
  • Participating in regular and required graphics artist's employee training.
  • Providing support for special projects as requested by the Prepress Manager.
