About The Position

The Graphic Artist position is responsible for accurately interpreting and manipulating artwork files, ensuring customers can approve accurate proofs in a timely manner, and adhering to print specifications for various printing platforms. This role involves supplying files to production according to scheduling requirements, tooling procurement, and color management using a wide range of prepress software. The position reports to the Operations Manager.

Requirements

At least five years in the print and label industry.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve issues effectively.
Must understand and have experience in Flexo, Digital, and Hybrid printing.
Must have advanced skills working in a Mac platform with proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite (Specializing in Illustrator and Photoshop software + additional creative suite software's), ArtPro.
Effective communication skills in order to understand assigned work, and request assistance from co-workers and Prepress Manager when required.
Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or similar documentation software for some special projects.
Mathematical (measurement) skills are a must.
Analytical ability and creative problem solving / troubleshooting skills are required.
Health and Safety must be an everyday mindset.
Flexibility to work weekends as per business needs.

Nice To Haves

A degree or diploma in Graphics, Printing Technology, or a related field is preferred.
An advanced understanding and use of Esko software (ver.22+) is an asset.
Knowledge with EFI Radius ERP would be an asset.
Workflow and Process Improvement considered as asset.

Responsibilities

Accurate artwork file setup for Flexo, Digital & Hybrid, including trapping, color correction, and variable data from customer-supplied files.
Pre-flighting files to assess usability of customer-supplied files.
Editing files on Mac computers using Adobe Creative Suite & ESKO software.
Setting up customer proofs according to specific printing specifications.
Liaising with the Prepress Manager or other departments for job-specific instructions.
Handling customer-requested changes and file manipulation.
Performing some design work as needed.
Setting up final stepped files for all print platforms and outputting final files & proofs.
Participating in regular press proofs, including artwork and color adjustments.
Contributing to and participating in Press Fingerprinting and Colour Profiling for all of RLG's printing platforms.
File setup for ordering die cavities, hot stamps, flatbed screens, and films from out-of-house suppliers.
Creating P.O.s for outside vendors, supplying accurate tooling files and specifications.
Participating in the quality assurance program within the Art Process and associated processes.
Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to print specifications.
Contributing to continuous improvement and implementing new policies and procedures.
Creating, documenting, and maintaining Art Dept. standard SOP's, WI's, and Forms.
Participating in the Art Dept. KPI program.
Ensuring Art Dept. Computers, Software's, Printers, etc. are maintained to the highest standards, scheduling service checks and managing repairs.
Consulting with Esko, HP, IT (or similar) for software issues.
Upholding all safety protocols and environmental regulations under the Occupational Health Safety Act (OHSA).
Conducting regular training sessions on safety practices.
Working collaboratively with Customers, Sales, Customer Service, Production Planning, Scheduling, and Production.
Sharing information on project timelines and material requirements.
Participating in regular and required graphics artist's employee training.
Providing support for special projects as requested by the Prepress Manager.
