About The Position

This is a temporary position within the Office of the County Judge. The role involves managing grants, monitoring, and compliance processes, and fostering partnerships among County departments. The Grants Specialist will provide overall management support for projects to ensure they are moving forward in a timely and efficient manner. This includes providing periodic reports on project status and potential problem areas, consulting with other county departments and vendors to discuss problems and interpret requirements, and overseeing the delivery of outside contracts or vendor services. The position also involves researching grant-related programs and initiatives to aid departments in serving community needs, staying abreast of state and federal programs and funding opportunities, and responding to citizen inquiries. The role also includes participation in emergency management activities during a local state of disaster as directed. This is a temporary assignment and there are no benefits included.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, or related field or two (2) years of experience directing a major program area; OR five (5) years of experience in management in a public agency or private organization; OR any equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • 2 to 5 years job related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, department and elected officials.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of relationships between local, state and federal governments, public interest groups and private enterprise.
  • Knowledge of methods of performing complex administrative, organizational and procedural analyses.
  • Knowledge of detailed organizational and functional structure of County government.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, regulations and procedures affecting functions of the County.
  • Knowledge of contract management.
  • Knowledge of computer applications.
  • Ability to supervise and/or direct the work.
  • Ability to independently research, analyze and make effective recommendations on administrative, management, budgetary and fiscal practices, procedures and problems.
  • Ability to prepare, negotiate and administer contracts.
  • Ability to research, compile and analyze statistical and other complex data.
  • Ability to write complex reports in a logical, comprehensive, concise manner.
  • Ability to prioritize workload efficiently, without direct instruction, to meet deadlines under changing conditions.
  • Ability to exercise initiative.
  • Ability to facilitate, coordinate and negotiate between staff members of different County and non-County departments and offices.
  • Ability to acquire subject matter expertise in program specific projects.
  • Ability to initiate and develop efficient, cost-effective policies.
  • Ability to prepare reports and present ideas orally and in writing.
  • Computer experience and technical experience in support of various software programs.
