About The Position

NAYA Family Center is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Grants and Contracts Accountant to join our Finance team. This role helps ensure that the funding supporting NAYA's programs is accurately accounted for, appropriately spent, and managed in accordance with funder requirements. You'll oversee the financial administration of an assigned portfolio of grants and contracts while partnering with program managers and Finance team members to support strong financial stewardship across the organization. You'll manage grant billing, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and financial reporting while monitoring expenditures and helping programs understand where they stand against their budgets. You'll also contribute to month-end close, audit readiness, annual budgeting, and improvements to NAYA's financial processes and systems. If you're someone who enjoys digging into the details, solving discrepancies, and helping program teams successfully navigate grant requirements, this could be a great fit.

Requirements

  • Comfortable taking ownership of detailed financial processes and deadlines.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including revenue recognition and the accounting treatment of restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Experience with grant or contract accounting and understand that different funding sources come with different rules, reporting requirements, and allowable expenses.
  • Ability to read grant agreements, budgets, and government regulations and translate those requirements into accurate financial practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with program managers and explain financial information in a way that helps non-finance colleagues understand their budgets and make informed decisions.
  • Comfortable reconciling accounts, investigating discrepancies, preparing journal entries, and supporting month-end close and audit preparation.
  • Highly organized and can manage multiple grants, reporting deadlines, and competing priorities without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Ability to take initiative, work well independently, and look for opportunities to make financial processes more efficient while maintaining strong internal controls.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial database systems.
