About The Position

The Senior Grants Administrator for the Department of Pharmacology & Immunology reports directly to the Administrative Manager II and is responsible for providing pre-award expert knowledge and support for the department research infrastructure grants as well as post award monitoring. In addition, the Grants Administrator II will provide expert knowledge and training to the MUSC research community which includes faculty, fellows and trainees, research administrators and coordinators. This position will work closely with the MUSC Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP), Grants and Contract Accounting and other central administrative units to support and manage the P&I grant portfolio.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or the social sciences and four years experience in contracts and grant administration activities.
  • Computer literacy.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior grants administrator to interpret federal, state, MUSC and sponsor policies, procedures and regulations related to grants administration and management.
  • Provide pre-award support for the development and preparation of grant applications including expert review of budget and budget justifications.
  • Responsible for submitting internal processing forms (IPF) for competing and noncompeting grant applications, supplements and RPPR’s.
  • Serve as the department liaison for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) and work closely with both ORSP and Grants and Contracts Accounting (GCA) regarding carryover requests, subcontracts, re-budgeting requests, cost share documentation and changes in key personnel, effort, or scope of work.
  • Recommend and develop changes in procedures or policies in accordance with changes in federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage and monitor the post award management of P&I sponsored awards.
  • Review and submit expenditure reports to PI’s and ensure that the awards are expending per the budget plan, identify and address variances with the Administrative Manager II.
  • Ensure timely setup of multi-year grants and subcontracts.
  • Coordinate and communicate with financial staff related to post award management plans and changes.
  • Serve as the lead Grant/Budget Core leader within P&I providing expert guidance, consultation and training to faculty, principal investigators fellows, and other trainees.
  • Provide expert guidance and communicate best practices to PIs in the aspects of developing and submitting competing and non-competing grant submissions, budget development and analysis review, supplemental and carryover requests and subcontracts, and in establishing contracts for other sponsored projects in compliance with federal, state, MUSC and sponsor regulations and requirements.
  • Enhance P&I’s research portfolio by monitoring and making recommendations to further improve the quality of the internal review process and administrative submissions.
  • PCA/PAA officer, processing PCAs/PAAs.
  • Train and provide oversight to the Fiscal Analyst and other staff as appropriate in pre-award and post-award grants administration.
  • Review and approve requisitions and other requests in OurDay.
  • Attend institutional training to keep skills current and knowledge up-to-date and disseminate training information to staff as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
