About The Position

The Grant Writer is responsible for researching, writing, and coordinating compelling grant proposals, reports, and related communications to secure funding from foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations. Working closely with the Senior Director of Development for the Western Region, this position gathers program and financial information, develops persuasive grant narratives, ensures compliance with funder requirements, and manages grant deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with grant writing and management.
  • Proven track record in raising money from foundation and government sources.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Excellent computer skills with all Microsoft Office programs, Windows 7, and an aptitude for learning other software as needed.
  • Must be able to prioritize work tasks.
  • Must be able to work without close personal supervision.
  • Experience with budget development and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of fundraising information sources.
  • Experience with proposal writing and institutional donors.
  • Proven track record with institutional donors.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques for fundraising prospect research.
  • Must have the ability to maintain good working relationships with Evergreen staff and with contacts from other agencies or entities, including consultant grant writers.

Nice To Haves

  • Program development experience preferred.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Knowledge of contracts and agreements preferred.
  • Experience in program development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform grant prospect research and work with consultants and divisional staff to produce sufficient number and quality of grant funding prospects; screen and determine appropriateness of grant funding sources identified by consultants and/or program staff; produce extensive funder profiles; target appropriate ask amounts.
  • Work with Senior Development Director providing templates; providing contact information; providing required documents (including but not limited to financial information, tax identification documents, key staff bios, organizational charts); providing information related to Evergreen such as organizational history, mission and vision statements; providing capital needs/project needs; orienting to the processes/grant procedures within Evergreen.
  • Write or facilitate writing of strategic grants in each of Evergreen's current divisions and any new divisions as growth requires every month.
  • Manage outgoing grant proposals by receiving information from foundations and inputting it into geographically separated matrices; updating matrices on an ongoing basis; providing updated grant matrices to the Senior Development Director every week.
  • Assist management staff/program staff in establishing relationships with funders by providing accurate contact information and other information about funders' current priorities, areas of interest, and giving history.
  • Review all outgoing grant proposals for accuracy and quality.
  • Manage existing grants by tracking grants; helping program staff to develop internal reporting systems; maintaining excellent historical records; working with staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations; assisting with report generation.
  • Monitor and manage grant income goal. Provide monthly "highlights" to the Foundation Executive concerning grant income.
