About The Position

Copper is looking for an experienced government grant writer to report on existing grants and apply for new grants, particularly with NYSERDA and DOE. The role starts as a three month, full-time contract. If it's a good fit on both sides and our grant writing needs continue to grow, there's a real possibility this becomes a permanent, full-time role at the end of the contract.

Requirements

  • Experience writing or revising government grants, ideally for federal or state energy programs.
  • Comfort working from existing drafts and reviewer feedback.
  • Ability to start from a blank page, utilize pre-existing documentation, and follow clear prompts for new documents.
  • Experience cleaning up and finalizing existing content.
  • A good eye for detail to catch small errors before submission.
  • Comfort with technical material, including batteries, induction cooking, and heat pumps.
  • Ability to manage own time and communicate progress effectively.
  • Ability to work with people and build relationships with grant program managers and Copper staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with State energy commission or Departments of Energy, Defense, Health and Human Services.

Responsibilities

  • Finalize existing NYSERDA reporting by working through drafts, addressing feedback, and ensuring submission readiness.
  • Own quarterly reporting on the DOE grant, working from existing scaffolding and prior submissions, confirming details, and maintaining schedule.
  • Assist in preparing new grant applications by taking kickoff conversations and developing strong first drafts.
  • Work with project managers to update on progress and manage expected deliverables for grant management organizations.
  • Build a library of reusable content (company background, technology descriptions, project narratives) for future applications.
