About The Position

Copper is seeking an experienced government grant writer to manage existing grants and apply for new ones, with a particular focus on NYSERDA and DOE. This role begins as a three-month, full-time contract with the potential to become a permanent, full-time position if there is a mutual fit and ongoing grant writing needs. The initial focus will be on finalizing NYSERDA reporting, followed by quarterly reporting on the DOE grant. The role will also involve preparing new grant applications, managing communications with grant program managers, and contributing to the development of a reusable content library for future applications.

Requirements

  • Experience writing or revising government grants, preferably for federal or state energy programs (e.g., State Energy Commission, Departments of Energy, Defense, Health and Human Services).
  • Proficiency in working with existing drafts and reviewer feedback, as well as starting from a blank page with pre-existing documentation and clear prompts.
  • Strong attention to detail to catch minor errors in reports.
  • Comfort with technical material, including batteries, induction cooking, and heat pumps, with a willingness to learn and write clearly about these topics.
  • Ability to manage personal time effectively and maintain communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building relationships with grant program managers and internal staff.

Responsibilities

  • Finalize existing NYSERDA grant reports by working through drafts, addressing feedback, and ensuring readiness for submission.
  • Manage quarterly reporting for the DOE grant, utilizing existing structures and prior submissions, confirming details with the team, and maintaining schedules.
  • Prepare new grant applications as opportunities arise, translating kickoff conversations into strong first drafts.
  • Collaborate with project managers within grant management organizations to provide progress updates and manage deliverables.
  • Build a library of reusable content, including company background, technology descriptions, and project narratives, for future grant applications.
