About The Position

The Department of Information Science - Health Informatics Program seeks a detail-oriented and highly organized Grant Writer to support faculty in developing competitive grant proposals, and coordinating proposal submissions to federal, state, foundation, and industry sponsors. with particular emphasis on the National Institutes of Health and related health-focused funding organizations. The Grant Writer will work collaboratively with the director of the Health Informatics Program to support strategic research growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public health, science, research administration, or related field.
  • Experience in grant writing, proposal development, research administration, or technical writing.
  • Excellent written, editing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports, and correspondence
  • Skill in communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience preparing proposals for National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, or private foundations.
  • Familiarity with NIH funding mechanisms, peer-review criteria, and proposal structure.
  • Experience in academic, healthcare, or research environments.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Grants.gov, eRA Commons, or institutional proposal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty to develop competitive grant proposals, letters of intent, concept papers, and full applications.
  • Assist in writing, editing, and formatting proposal narratives, biosketches, abstracts, specific aims, and supporting documents.
  • Coordinate proposal timelines, submission requirements, and internal deadlines.
  • Gather and organize required administrative documentation, including budgets, justifications, compliance materials, and institutional approvals.
  • Maintain records of submissions, outcomes, and funding activity.
  • Provide strategic input on proposal competitiveness and funding alignment.
