About The Position

The Connecticut Network for Children and Youth is a statewide intermediary and advocacy organization that strengthens afterschool and out-of-school time (OST) systems. We advance policy and practice that helps expand equitable opportunities for children, youth, and families across Connecticut. We are currently seeking a Part-time Grant Consultant who will work closely with the Executive Director to research and assess grant opportunities, draft grant applications, and prepare reports for funders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least four (4) years relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to write successful grant applications ranging from $10,000 to $4-5 million (include examples)
  • Strong, demonstrated proficiency in both Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Clear and concise communicator with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Responsible, organized, able to set priorities and be detail-oriented.
  • Ability to research efficiently using the internet.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent math ability for developing grant budgets.
  • Strong interest in the nonprofit sector and helping children and families (afterschool and out-of-school time experience preferred).
  • Extremely flexible and able to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of office administration and management; ability to work independently
  • Significant oral and written communication skills (knowledge of proper grammar, punctuation and spelling)
  • Knowledge of business communications
  • Knowledge of business math
  • Significant interpersonal skills and ability to contribute meaningfully to the team and organization
  • Ability to operate office equipment which includes personal computers and other electronic equipment
  • Ability to operate Google and Microsoft office suite software.

  • Experience with grant software a plus.

  • Experience in youth development, out-of-school time, informal educational settings
  • Experience communicating, verbally and in writing, effectively across all levels of an organization
  • Experience working independently using initiative and problem-solving skills to complete multiple projects on time with minimal supervision
  • Experience scheduling, tracking, and documenting multiple streams of work
  • Verifiable experience writing successful grants or sales proposals ranging from $10K - $4 million

Responsibilities

  • Study and understand the history, structure, objectives, programs and financial needs of the organization.
  • Collaborate with staff to conceptualize projects and develop budgets for grant applications.
  • Research grant opportunities from both private philanthropies and government agencies.
  • Draft grant proposals and supporting documents based on the funding requirements of the organization.
  • Maintain records and submit reports related to grant opportunities.
