About The Position

LSF is looking for a talented Grant Accountant who wants to make an impact in the lives of children and families. This role ensures the Agency is in compliance with Federal, State, and funding source specific regulations, requirements, and other guidelines, as well as A-133 audit requirements and LSF standards. The Grant Accountant will apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to analytical work and thorough review of financial records related to assigned grants. They will design and maintain an effective billing system and financial reporting to funding sources and Program Managers. This position will maintain contract files including original contracts, amendments, billing, and correspondence. The Grant Accountant works closely with Program Managers and/or Directors to understand program operations and is responsible for all budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting related to assigned grants, becoming the subject matter expert for those contracts.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree in accounting required.
  • 3 to 5 years of related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with governmental agencies and other funding source agencies.
  • Ability to research applicable rules and regulations and apply them to specific programs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, possess a good work ethic and be a self-starter with the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to apply strong problem-solving techniques.
  • Experienced and skilled in reconciliations.
  • Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office and Excel and general ledger software package.
  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in not-for-profit or government accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Agency compliance with Federal, State, and funding source regulations and guidelines, including A-133 audit requirements and LSF standards.
  • Apply GAAP to analytical work and financial record review for assigned grants.
  • Design and maintain effective billing systems and financial reporting for funding sources and Program Managers.
  • Maintain contract files, including original contracts, amendments, billing, and correspondence.
  • Manage budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting for assigned grants.
  • Become the subject matter expert for assigned contracts.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and other funding source regulations and requirements for non-profit organizations, including Uniform Guidance 2 CFR Part 200.
  • Ensure fiscal compliance in all assigned grants/contracts, working closely with Program and Contract Managers.
  • Coordinate and oversee funding sources' financial reports and fiscal monitoring.
  • Review financial statements monthly to ensure accuracy of program revenue, expenditures, and required match, and document actual vs. budget variances.
  • Provide technical assistance to Program Managers on contract budgeting and fiscal compliance issues.
  • Review monthly financial reports with Managers.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
  • Assist outside auditors at year-end by preparing schedules and providing explanations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely information, reports, and billing.
  • Calculate monthly revenue for all applicable programs and prepare related journal entries.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and collection of billed revenues.
  • Adjust work schedule as necessary to support monthly financial statement closing schedule.
  • Perform other projects as assigned.
