About The Position

The Grain Originator is responsible for growing the volume of grain marketed through Ag Partners, especially in the direct farm to market segment, by aggressively building grower relationships and assisting growers with their grain marketing needs.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and weights.
  • Drivers license required.
  • The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Able to deal with problems with several concrete variables in standard situations.
  • Must be able to think quickly and perform a mental assessment of workplace hazards, take appropriate precautions, and choose appropriate PPE as dictated by need, regulation and labeling.
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, read, talk and/or hear.
  • Regularly required to sit.
  • Frequently required to stand; walk; handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years’ experience in the agricultural and grain marketing filed.
  • Must be willing to seek out and attend additional continuing education, seminars classes or other job-related education requirements or opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Developing business relationships with the Cooperative’s growers.
  • Providing excellent customer service and working to build customer relations with current and new customers.
  • Reporting customer price targets to the grain merchandiser.
  • Tracking individually each grower’s grain positions and share those with the grain merchandising team.
  • Making plans with Coop growers on profitable levels in the market throughout the year.
  • Working with the growers to use their crop insurance guarantee number of bushels to safely market grain throughout the year.
  • Providing insight to the growers on things that affect the market (weather, time of year, crop size, rainfall, etc.).
  • Helping conduct grower meetings in each Ag Partners Cooperative Regions throughout the year.
  • Learning the risk tolerances of our local growers and communicating the type of tools that fit those growers to the grain merchandising team.
  • Educating our local growers on the types of products and services Ag Partners Cooperative provides.
  • Communicating new customer opportunities for Ag Partners Cooperative to the appropriate company department.
  • Adherence to safety policies and providing safety leadership.
  • Promoting and adhering to the company Core Values of honesty, integrity & teamwork.
  • Adhering to cooperative credit policy.
  • Promptly and regularly report to work and work overtime hours as needed.
  • Present a clean and professional appearance.
