We’re hiring a Grain Originator Intern in Mitchell, SD! This hands-on internship offers the chance to work closely with our full-time Grain Originator, engaging with local producers to secure grain and develop effective marketing strategies. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in Ag Business, Crop Science, or other Agriculture related degree program

Nice To Haves

  • Agriculture/crop/grain experience or background knowledge very helpful.
  • Previous internship experience helpful, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge of general agronomy skills such as scouting, crop protection products, crop nutrient products, seed, custom application procedures, mixing procedures, truck driving, and delivering product.
  • Perform all agronomy/seed operations.
  • Monitor and maintain quality of inventory.
  • Regulate and periodic housecleaning processes and record keeping.
  • Assist with repairs and preventative maintenance for all agronomy equipment including legs, conveyors, towers, vehicles, sprayers, floaters, trucks, etc.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assist customers as needed.
  • Work in and keep an environment that is compliant with state, local, and CHS Environmental and Safety policy.
  • Learn and assist with grain origination: procure grain from local producers and call on new accounts.
  • Learn and observe working with producers, updating them on market trends, current grain quotes, grain programs, and forming marketing plans.
  • Assist with reporting and typing all purchasing contracts quickly & accurately.
  • Assist Grain Originator with rail billing and grain sales settlements as needed.
  • Partner with the elevator and office staff in the exchange of information to enhance the flow of grain.
  • Provide excellent customer service and work well with patrons in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
