About The Position

This internship is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the grain industry, including grain origination, merchandising, marketing strategies, and the importance of customer relationships within the cooperative sector. The intern will gain practical knowledge and assist in various operational aspects of grain procurement and sales.

Requirements

• Must maintain a valid driver’s license and commercial insurability at all times.
• Synthesizes complex or diverse information.

• Understands business implications of decisions.
• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or Bachelor's Degree in an agricultural related field or working towards a Bachelor's Degree.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Knowledge of spreadsheet, accounting and grain software.

Responsibilities

• Gain working knowledge of procuring corn and soybeans from producer customers.
• Assist with calls on producers, explaining programs and markets to promote purchases of grain.
• Learn pricing and credit terms and prepare sales and purchase contracts for orders obtained.
• Gain understanding of monitoring area basis levels.
• Assist with monitoring competitiveness for cash grain bids.
• Gain understanding of and assist in monitoring activity on the Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT).
• Assists in the development of and communication of grain policies and programs.
• Maintain a high level of customer service and a friendly atmosphere.
• Other duties as assigned by management.
