About The Position

The School of Social Work at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking a graduate student with experience in spatial data analysis using Python to support faculty research projects. The ideal candidate will have experience working with multiple Python libraries and packages for spatial data analysis and be comfortable developing code independently. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with faculty on research projects and apply advanced programming and spatial analysis skills to real-world research questions.

Requirements

• Current graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno with a minimum of 3.0 GPA.
• Demonstrated experience using Python for spatial data analysis.
• Familiarity with multiple Python libraries and packages used for spatial analysis and visualization.
• Experience with spatial analysis techniques such as heat maps, kernel density estimates, spatial correlations, or similar approaches.
• Ability to independently develop and modify code for data analysis and visualization.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to organize and manage research data.

Responsibilities

• Cleaning, organizing, and preparing spatial and other research data for analysis.
• Developing and implementing spatial data analyses using Python.
• Creating data visualizations to communicate spatial patterns and findings.
• Conducting analyses involving heat maps, kernel density estimates, spatial correlations, and related spatial analysis techniques.
• Writing, testing, and refining Python code to support both statistical analyses and visualizations.
• Working independently to troubleshoot code and develop analytical solutions based on research needs.
