About The Position

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) is seeking a Graduate Student Worker to serve as a First Generation Student Center Specialist. This role involves assisting in the supervision and training of academic peer mentors, planning and delivering academic workshops, and supporting major department events. The specialist will also mentor First in the Pack students, handle data collection and administrative reporting, and represent the First-Generation Student Center at various university events. Additionally, the role includes creating social media content, performing front desk reception duties as needed, and assisting with grading for a first-year experience course. This is a part-time position requiring 20-25 hours per week.

Requirements

Enrolled as a full-time graduate student at the University of Nevada, Reno
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work with first-generation undergraduate students of all backgrounds
Strong technology, organization, programming, and evaluation skills

Nice To Haves

Experience with tutoring and/or mentoring
Familiarity with financial aid and admissions policies
An academic program in Education, Counseling, Human Development, or Social Work

Responsibilities

Assist in the supervision and training of academic peer mentors
Plan and deliver two academic workshops per month to program participants
Assist with major department events and peer mentor socials
Mentor a First in the Pack roster of students
Data collection, evaluation, and administrative reporting
Represent the First-Generation Student Center at a variety of university events, including Nevada Bound, New Student Orientation Sessions, NevadaFit, etc.
Create social media content for the First-Gen Center
Front desk reception duties as needed
Assist with grading for a first-year experience course as needed
Other duties as assigned
