About The Position

A Graduate Assistant is used primarily to designate a graduate student who has been assigned responsibilities in an instructional department. A Research Assistant is a graduate student working towards a Master's or Ph.D. degree. An appointment as a research assistant is appropriate if the activity performed by the research assistant is primarily for the benefit of the individual's course of study and research and directly applicable to the individual's thesis or dissertation. A Teaching Assistant is a graduate student who is enrolled in the University of Wisconsin system who is regularly assigned teaching and related responsibilities, other than manual or clerical responsibilities, under the supervision of a member of the faculty. While this position is listed as “On Site,” there are cases where the position may be partially or fully remote. Discuss with your faculty advisor.

Requirements

  • Must be admitted to a graduate degree program at UW-Stevens Point
  • Must be in good standing in the degree program (maintain at least a 3.0 GPA)
  • For a research assistant, must be enrolled for at least 9 graduate credits at the beginning of the academic year or 5 graduate credits during the summer
  • For a graduate assistant or teaching assistant, must be enrolled for at least 4 graduate credits at the beginning of the academic year or 3 graduate credits during the summer
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must supply three (3) professional references/one (1) of which being a current or former supervisor.

Nice To Haves

  • We recommend that the graduate assistants limit their maximum course loads to 9 credits per semester.
  • Preference to supply five (5) professional references/two (2) of which being current or former supervisors.
