About The Position

Graduate Online Writing Consultants meet with students individually or in small groups to assist with all stages of the writing process. This includes providing advice on developing thesis statements, citing sources, and integrating them into their work. The Writing Center focuses on teaching writers how to improve their skills rather than offering proofreading services. The consultant for the Online Writing Center will primarily assist distance education students, particularly from the School of Nursing's graduate programs, through virtual sessions via Zoom. They will also assist students who visit the Writing Center on a walk-in basis for face-to-face sessions. Knowledge of or willingness to learn Zoom is required.

Requirements

  • Must be a full-time student in a for-credit degree program.
  • Cannot be concurrently working another job at Duquesne.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Zoom is required.
  • Must use time management software Kronos UKG to log in and out.
  • Must submit an online application form.
  • Must submit a résumé/cv.
  • Must submit an academic research-based writing sample.
  • Must combine résumé/cv and writing sample into one PDF file.

Nice To Haves

  • Tutoring or teaching experience, particularly of writing, is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Meet individually or in small groups with students to help them with writing from all stages of their writing processes.
  • Provide advice and suggestions for a range of writing tasks and concerns, from developing thesis statements to citing and integrating sources.
  • Assist distance education students, primarily from the School of Nursing’s graduate programs, virtually via Zoom.
  • Assist students who visit the Writing Center for face-to-face sessions without an appointment (i.e., on a walk-in basis).
