About The Position

The ETSU College of Nursing, Department of Graduate Nursing Programs invites applications for a full-time innovative and dedicated nursing educator with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, practice and service. This is a 12-month, non-tenured position with specialization in psychiatric/mental health nursing and a focus on the care of patients with addiction/substance use disorder (SUD) treatment/recovery. This faculty position is one of five new faculty and two clinical fellow hires across four departments (Psychology, Counseling and Human Services, Nursing, and Social Work) focused on addiction and recovery. This position is for a one to three-year appointment. Funding for the position is from the State of Tennessee’s Opioid Abatement Council. This position is one of a cohort of faculty and clinical fellows hired across behavioral health professions training programs who will help to grow the SUD workforce, and the skill set of the existing healthcare workforce around the region. In addition to support from the Department of Undergraduate Programs in the College of Nursing, this position will receive significant support for research from the Addiction Science Center. The Addiction Science Center partners with affected communities in Central Appalachia to advance the science of substance misuse prevention and treatment. We seek an innovative and dedicated nursing educator with a strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, practice, and service. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute primarily to teaching in the graduate nursing program. The position requires engagement in classroom, lab, simulation, and clinical-based teaching, supporting the development of future nursing professionals. The new faculty will join a dynamic group of nursing educators with a strong commitment to student success through innovative evidence-based teaching strategies, inter-professional collaboration, and fostering an environment where every student feels valued and supported. This position requires teaching, research and service duties to be conducted in person on campus. Remote or hybrid work options are not available. Rank is determined at the time of hiring. Candidates considered for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor must possess a terminal academic doctoral degree in nursing or related field by the start date and demonstrate the potential for research productivity. Qualifications for a clinical track position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor require a terminal degree in nursing or related field. Faculty rank commensurate with education and experience.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing.
  • Current/active certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
  • Current/active unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Tennessee of compact/multi-state.
  • Two (2) years of relevant experience as a psychiatric/mental health nurse with specialization in the care of patients with addiction/substance use disorder (SUD) treatment/recovery.
  • Knowledge of computer/audiovisual software and technology, including learning management systems and supplemental instructional platforms.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based nursing education practices.
  • Knowledge of nursing accreditation standards.
  • Knowledge of current healthcare practices including current technologies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a wide range of faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners.
  • Ability to effectively engage and motivate students.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff and clinical partners.
  • Ability to engage in clinical teaching as per workload assignment.
  • Ability to travel to clinical agencies based on workload assignment.
  • Ability to travel to other campus sites for teaching as per workload negotiation.
  • All applicants must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English in accordance with the Tennessee Board of Regents policy 5:02:01:03.

Nice To Haves

  • PhD or DNP in Nursing or a terminal degree in a related field; Master’s degree in Nursing with a PMHNP concentration or post-graduate certificate as a PMHNP.
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the Graduate level.
