About The Position

The Graduate Nurse must be accepted into the Loma Linda University Children's Hospital (LLUCH) Pediatric Residency training program designed to meet the needs of new graduates and provide support to ease the transition from nursing school to the professional nursing world by giving them specific tools and experiences to become successful pediatric nurses. Under the mentorship of assigned Registered Nurse (RN) preceptor, provides age-specific and developmentally-appropriate quality patient care in a skills mix environment. Acquires and applies basic theoretical concepts to clinical practice and embraces new knowledge, innovations, and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. Develops interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in patient experience, safe patient care, and professionalism. Obtains skills to contribute to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required at time of acceptance to RN Residency in Pediatrics.
  • No experience required.
  • Demonstrates basic competencies in clinical nursing.
  • Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in neighborhood of specialty.
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required.
  • Exhibit professional behavior at all times.
  • Able to speak, read and write legibly in English.
  • Able to use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program.
  • Able to troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment.
  • Able to perform technical patient care activities.
  • Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others.
  • Able to be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies.

  • Able to discern temperature variances through touch.
  • Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required on entry into the LLUCH RN Residency in Pediatrics program.

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Other certifications required prior to completion of the residency program as indicated in the department-specific Plan for Providing Care, e.g., AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), Basic Fetal Monitoring (BFM).
