Under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer, this role involves performing routine engineering projects and assignments that require limited judgment. The position adheres to defined methods, procedures, and practices to meet the experience requirements for licensure as a professional engineer. The Engineer A will assist in the preparation and maintenance of design drawings, diagrams, charts, databases, plans, and permits. They will also be involved in developing proposals for impacts, performing preliminary and final designs, and preparing design criteria for assigned projects. Additionally, the role includes assisting in the preparation of standards, equipment specifications, design procedures, and test procedures related to standardization and engineering policies. Reviewing and assisting in the evaluation of job safety procedures is also a key function. The position requires coordinating and providing technical information to various stakeholders, including inter and intra-departmental personnel, other government agencies, contractors, consultants, and the public. This involves exchanging information, coordinating work, answering questions, and responding to complaints. The engineer will use computerized software and drafting techniques to prepare drawings and maps, and provide technical advice. They will also develop, analyze, and generate technical reports, correspondence, and official documents. Assisting in the preparation of cost estimates for budgets, programs, schedules, and contract payments is required. Field inspections of contractor work to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, and drafting/recommending contract change orders and payments are also part of the duties. Finally, performing statistical analysis to ensure specifications are within established guidelines is expected.
