About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer to join their brand-new graduate program launching in 2026. This role involves supporting the primary discipline design engineer by modifying or creating technical specifications, calculations, and drawings for power line projects. The Graduate Engineer will learn through self-study and use specialty software to facilitate designs, monitoring their own discipline-specific products for schedule and budget adherence. They will work under the tutelage of a senior engineer, using manual methods and the Power Line Systems (PLS) Suite of software for design. The role requires collaboration with Engineering Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Supervisors to produce project products, calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports, ensuring all work is technically sound and compliant with procedures and contract requirements. Quality and compliance of deliverables will be verified, and design reviews will be managed to ensure comments are addressed. The position emphasizes continuous improvement of job-related knowledge and skills, maintaining accurate records, and effective planning and organization.

Requirements

  • Strong familiarity with the MS Office Suite, especially excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Authorized and able to apply and obtain a PE License within four years.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to the Austin, TX office.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in power system design for electrical alternating current (AC) underground and overhead lines.
  • Power system design experience in High Voltage and Extra High Voltage, direct current (DC) overhead and underground lines.
  • Experience with some technical applications such as: CDEGS, PLS CADD; CymCAPP; ETAP; AutoCAD; Bentley; etc.
  • Passing score on the EIT exam is preferred.
  • BS Electrical Engineering preferred. Other Engineering disciplines considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support the primary discipline design engineer by modifying or creating technical specifications, calculations, and drawings in support of one or more power line projects.
  • Learn through self-study and use specialty software programs to facilitate the design.
  • Monitor discipline-specific products, ensuring they are completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Design lines under the tutelage of a senior engineer using manual and Power Line Systems, PLS, Suite of software.
  • Work with Engineering Project Engineers, Project Managers, and Supervisor to design specific project products, calculations, specifications, drawings, and reports.
  • Ensure that Engineering work and Engineering support is performed in a technically sound manner and completed in accordance with Engineering Project Procedures and specific Contract requirements.
  • Verify the Quality and Compliance of deliverables.
  • Review deliverables to ensure they are consistent, sound and compliant.
  • Apply engineering/technical skills in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
  • Effectively plan, organize, estimate, schedule, and monitor personal work activities.
  • Produce thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  • Continuously improve job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
  • Maintain accurate records and files.
  • Verify that Design Reviews have been performed and that Reviewer comments or issues raised are closed.
