About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. The Graduate Assistant for Communications and Project Management Support will play a pivotal role in advancing the Office of Inclusive Excellence’s mission. This position involves partnering closely with the Vice President of Inclusive Excellence to support communication projects, including drafting engaging content, coordinating digital outreach, and analyzing communication metrics to enhance engagement and reach. The assistant will also provide robust project management support for office initiatives, leading the planning, organization, and execution of Vice President for Inclusive Excellence (VPIE) specific events and programs. Key responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders, developing project timelines, managing resources, and evaluating outcomes to maximize the impact of communications and events. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to advancing inclusive excellence through effective, innovative, and professional communication strategies, as well as effective project management practices. This role requires creativity, adaptability, and the ability to lead initiatives from inception to successful completion.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at American University.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage calendars, scheduling, and office records efficiently.
  • Experience or strong interest in supporting office events, communications, and initiatives.
  • Familiarity with office software and digital tools for document management and communication.
  • Effective interpersonal and professional communication skills.
  • Proven reliability, punctuality, and ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to inclusive language and practices in all communications.
