Graduate Assistant (Formatively Assessing Procedural Fluency)

About The Position

Under the supervision of the COE faculty member, participate in a Hawaii Education Research Network (HERN) partnership between the Hawai‘i Department of Education (HIDOE) and UHM’s College of Education. Conduct research on elementary math education and formative assessment. Research tasks may include but are not limited to: conducting literature searches and reviews on methods for assessing procedural fluency, meeting with project partners and stakeholders, assist in developing and submitting an IRB application for the project, collecting, organizing, and analyzing information and data, synthesizing findings, and with guidance from faculty, writing research reports and assist in co-authoring and co-presenting project findings and scholarly work (e.g. webinars, research forums, conferences). Participate in monthly HERN Fellow meetings. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Classified, full-time (minimum of 6 credits) graduate student in good academic standing (GPA of 3.0 or above) at UH Manoa.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to attend to tasks with detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in conducting literature searches and reviews.
  • Experience in curriculum research or working with curriculum standards.
  • Experience in writing reports.
  • Experience in coding or categorizing qualitative data.
  • Experience in cleaning and manipulating quantitative data sets using MS Excel or Google Sheets.
