About The Position

This is a 20-hour per week, full-time position that offers a tuition waiver with a stipend. Employment begins the week prior to the first week of school through finals week each semester. Graduate Assistants do not work during University breaks. The primary responsibility is to plan, prepare, and teach UNI 102 Strategies for Academic Success under the guidance of an Academic Counselor in University College. This course meets twice per week for the full academic semester and is restricted to University College conditionally admitted students who are on academic probation. The course is offered in the fall and spring semesters. Additional responsibilities include monitoring class attendance, grading assignments, assigning midterm and final course grades, conducting required one-on-one student meetings outside of class, monitoring required study time, working with students to develop strategic plans for academic improvement, and reporting course standing or issues to student advisors. The role also involves referring students to campus services when appropriate. Additional duties include staffing the University College reception desk, handling mail, and other tasks as assigned by University College staff.

  • Must not work on University breaks.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, prepares, and teaches UNI 102 Strategies for Academic Success with the guidance of an Academic Counselor in University College.
  • Monitors class attendance, grades assignments, assigns midterm course grades and final course grades.
  • Conducts required one-on-one student meetings outside of class time.
  • Monitors required study time assigned to students enrolled in the course.
  • Works with students to develop strategic plans for improving their academic status.
  • Reports course standing or any course issues (attendance or otherwise) to student’s academic advisor.
  • Refers students to services available on campus (tutoring, writing center, counseling, etc.) when appropriate.
  • Receives students and phone calls at University College reception desk when not teaching or meeting with students.
  • Taking and picking up mail from mail room in Old Main.
  • Other tasks and projects as determined by University College staff.
