About The Position

The Graduate Assistant will work closely with one or more faculty members and assist with scholarly and teaching-related activities. Work may include research activities from design through literature review, data collection, analysis, writing, and preparation or presentation of findings, as well as data entry and office support. Occasional teaching-related support tasks and other departmental duties may also be assigned.

The assistantship provides a stipend and a tuition waiver or tuition scholarship for up to 18 credit hours. Graduate assistants are responsible for fees beyond tuition and differential tuition. The appointment percentage is 50%.

Requirements

• Admission to and enrollment in a graduate program at Eastern Michigan University.
• Ability to work up to 20 hours per week; 10 hours per week for a 50% assistantship.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Maintain at least 67% course completion.
• Enrollment in at least 6 credits during the Fall and Winter semesters.

Nice To Haves

• Availability to work between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
• Ability to work two consecutive semesters; preference is given to graduate students who can do so.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.
• Some knowledge of statistics.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist university faculty or staff with research projects or other assignments requiring graduate-student skills.
• Support research activities such as design, literature review, data collection, analysis, writing, and preparation or presentation of findings.
• Perform data entry and some office-support activities.
• Provide occasional teaching-related support.
• Perform other departmental duties as required.
