About The Position

This is a Graduate Assistant position within the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence/ Assessment and Curriculum Support Center at the Manoa Campus. The role is temporary, part-time (50% Full Time Equivalency), and is an 11-month appointment. The position is set to begin on or after August 17, 2026. Renewal of the appointment is contingent upon satisfactory performance, program needs, funding availability, and meeting the assistantship's eligibility requirements. The Graduate Assistant will support the Assessment and Curriculum Support Center in conducting research, planning and evaluating events, managing daily operations, and supervising student assistants.

Requirements

  • Acceptance or enrollment in a UH Manoa Masters or PhD program in good academic standing.
  • If currently enrolled, a 3.0 GPA or above and making appropriate progress toward degree.
  • Coursework in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods involving human behavior (e.g., Educational Research Design, Qualitative Research in Social Science/Education, Indigenous Applied Research Methods, Analysis in Field Research Methods, Intro to Quantitative Methods, Survey Research Design and Analysis, Statistical Analysis for Social Sciences/Education).
  • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks with a high degree of attention to detail, accuracy, and quality.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative as appropriate, and reliably contribute to the team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently to meet project deadlines and expectations.
  • Proficient in word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Demonstrated interest in higher education and assessment and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to be positive and professional in a work environment.
  • Must be residing on O‘ahu, Hawai‘i and be available on-campus.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated skills and previous work experience with higher education program assessment or evaluation.
  • Proficient in using spreadsheet software (Excel, Google Sheets) and advanced functions such as creating charts, using formulas, generating pivot tables and pivot charts.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct literature review, qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, and data visualizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies for conducting research and increasing productivity (e.g., statistical software, AI applications).
  • Experience with project management and/or event planning.
  • Experience with updating websites, desktop and/or graphic design.
  • Experience with coding and computer programming.
  • Experience with using generative AI to increase quality and productivity of work.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative research in higher education, including literature reviews, data collection, data management and analysis, data summarization, and report writing.
  • Assist in planning, offering, and evaluating workshops, events, projects, and online materials.
  • Support daily operations of the center, including website updates, communication with campus constituents, tracking, and producing documentation.
  • Train and assist in supervising student assistants, volunteers, and interns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
